Online rumors now force brands to react within hours, and Gudea wants to give them an earlier warning. The company presented its AI system for tracking narrative spread on the Startup Battlefield stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. It monitors more than 500 mainstream and fringe sites, including X, Reddit and TikTok. Last week Gudea raised $7 million in seed funding, bringing total funding to approximately $15 million. For business, this matters because the cost of a missed signal keeps rising as generative AI makes coordinated campaigns cheaper.

Gudea tracks rumor pathways to warn brands before a crisis

How Gudea tracks narratives across 500 platforms

Gudea was founded in 2023 by Keith Presley, Jonathan Sperber and James Thomin. Presley previously built infrastructure for Andrew Yang's presidential campaign and has more than 15 years across political campaigns and defense. Sperber, chief strategy officer, has a background in disinformation research. Thomin, chief technology officer, holds a Ph. D. in chemical engineering and has spent roughly two decades in AI and machine learning. Three years after founding, the company reports nearly 40 clients.

The product differs from social listening tools that count mentions, hashtags and impressions. Gudea analyzes behavior, relationships and pathways through which information travels between people, groups and platforms. It aims to show who drives a conversation, how material moves, how fast a story gains traction and where it could head next. The company describes itself as a storm tracker for the internet. The point is context behind growth in mentions, so executives can decide how and whether to respond.

The customer list cited by Presley includes a Fortune 50 telecommunications company and a Fortune 50 retailer. It also includes one of the world's largest AI labs, one of the world's largest bands, public relations and crisis communications agencies, and government agencies. The seed round was co-led by Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures. That mix suggests demand from both commercial brands and public-sector users. For vendors, it positions Gudea between marketing analytics and risk management.

What early warning means for brand and comms teams

For companies that run communications, the practical shift is from counting volume to mapping drivers. Instead of a report that mentions are rising, a team gets a picture of accounts and communities pushing a claim, including AI-generated misinformation, hate speech or damaging rumor. That helps prioritize response: ignore noise, prepare a statement, or intervene in a specific channel. Small firms without a monitoring unit gain a structured triage method. Large firms can connect the signal to existing crisis procedures.

The approach has clear limits that buyers should test before signing. Gudea does not publish accuracy rates, response times or pricing in the source material. Mapping influence across fringe platforms raises questions about data coverage, false positives and interpretation of inauthentic activity. Presley said such activity appeared in about one in four cases examined around 2021, versus about nine in ten now. That estimate underlines urgency, but it is not a guarantee that every flagged narrative will turn into a crisis.

The marker to watch is geolocation for narratives, slated for next year with precision down to the city-block level. A second marker is a planned capability to test an advertising campaign through Gudea's AI model before launch to assess the risk of a negative outcome. If both ship on schedule and appear in client workflows, narrative forecasting will move from monitoring dashboards into planning. If they slip, the product remains a faster detector rather than a preventive control.
