Cisco used its Partner Summit in Vancouver to redefine how its 2,000 partners earn money, shifting focus from transactions to advisory influence and recurring services. Channel bookings accounted for about 90% of Cisco total in fiscal 2026, with global channel growth just over 17%, while the stock rose more than 50% over 12 months. Chief Executive Chuck Robbins called fiscal 2026 the best year Cisco ever had, yet the message was that good results mask structural change in AI-era buying.
Ecosystem credit, Cisco IQ and security push
Ecosystem Deal Registration gives advisers, consultants and developers formal credit for helping Cisco win deals even when they do not execute them. Today that credit means marketing support and promotion alongside Cisco sellers, while preferred advisers and developers become eligible for referral incentives starting next spring. Cisco is adding dedicated Partner Value Indexes for advisers and developers, with a unified distributor index planned for 2027.
Cisco IQ Partner Branded Support Standard lets partners deliver Cisco IQ under their own brand, through their own experts, with role-based access to installed bases, application programming interfaces, IT service management integrations and a Model Context Protocol server. More than 16,000 customers and nearly 20 million devices are now on Cisco IQ. Generali cut assessment of a security advisory across 16,000 devices from four days to 10 minutes, while Georgetown University turned two months of manual renewal work into a 20-minute view.
The economics example compared a 75-switch refresh worth about $625,000 with a Cisco IQ-led approach covering 175 switches and hardening plus managed operations worth roughly $1.3 million over five years, or 2.1 times the value. Cisco supports the shift with a $2,500 adoption incentive per onboarded customer, 6% deal registration on Standard and Signature support, and a $1 million Builders Challenge for managed services on Cisco IQ. The logic moves partners from project revenue toward recurring revenue with higher valuation multiples.
What AI-era channel economics means for business
Security and refresh pressure creates the near-term advisory opening, because only 8% of the installed base has moved to the new enterprise portfolio. Time from vulnerability discovery to exploitation fell from more than two years in 2018 to about three weeks last year and eight hours or less this year. Cisco answered with expanded Live Protect coverage, a quantum-resilient Wi-Fi 7 access point and Privileged Infrastructure Access built with Teleport for short-lived access for engineers and AI agents.
Margin follows platform breadth rather than the first product sold, according to Chief Financial Officer Mark Patterson, who said partners may lead with compute and then add networking, security, Splunk and observability. Incentives include an extra 2% cross-sell bonus for new architectures including Splunk, a 50% higher reward for annual contract value growth, doubled adoption incentives and 12% deal registration for Supermicro systems in full-stack AI infrastructure. With 91% of surveyed partners saying customers worry about AI costs, efficient on-premises inference design becomes a margin lever.
For buyers and partners, the practical test is whether influence-based credit expands deals without creating channel conflict, since Omdia research cited by Cisco shows six to seven partners and 28 moments of influence before purchase. Tooling to watch includes Model Foundry in Cisco Cloud Control with Deep Network models, Cloud Control Studio for building agents, new MCP servers, and ThousandEyes testing built into eligible Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points. An early agent-to-agent pilot with a distributor cut bill-of-materials time by about 80%, while the Nov. 7 price increase targets memory-intensive products.
